About Mrs. Terry

My name is Susan Terry.  I teach 8th grade language arts and Teen Leadership classes in the middle school.  My husband, Steve, and I are long-time Roughnecks.  We graduated together from White Oak High School.  Both our boys, Billy and Cody, graduated as 13-year Roughnecks. Now our granddaughter  Kailyn, is a first-grade Roughneck; she shares the distinction of being a 3rd generation Roughneck along with a plethora of her cousins.

When I graduated from high school, I began working at White Oak State Bank, eventually rising to an officer’s position.  However, I resigned that position when Billy was born and stayed home with both my boys until they entered school.  Because I held a business degree, I did work part time at two oil companies and also taught twirling in my garage, while my Mimi watched my boys.  I began to gain more and more twirling students and soon founded my own 400-student, 16-instructor dance, twirling, gymnastic studio. I continued  for two and a half years to run the studio and teach twirling while I worked to earn my teaching certificate at UT Tyler.   Knowing that I could not handle a teaching position and the growing studio led me to sell it.

While I began my teaching career at Spring Hill Middle School, I came home to White Oak after two years and will finish my career as part of the Roughneck teaching staff.  My husband  is a Texas Eastman employee. We are members of New Beginnings Baptist Church along with my older son and his daughter.

Billy, our older son, also teaches and coaches for White Oak I. S. D.  The light of his life is his daughter, Kailyn.  Our younger son, Cody, works in Austin at the Texas State Capitol as Chief of Staff  for Texas State Representative Bryan Hughes who, as an ordained minister, performed the marriage ceremony between Cody and Jessica Brown. Jessica went to Hollywood, but now uses her voice for the Lord exclusively.   She brought to the marriage two little girls, Peyton and Kyla, who call Cody “Daddy.” His family grew in October of 2010 when Abigail Grace was born and again when Sophia Anne came. They are busy parents but remain active in their church,  Austin Stone.  Cody still referees UIL football games, plays church or intramural basketball, and runs along the banks of the Colorado River with his faithful Australian Shepherd, Mercedes.
